Schedule of Classes: Spring 2018
All Classes begin on January 16, 2018
and ends on April 30, 2018

| Village | Our Time | Imagine That! | Young Child | ABC Music & Me |

“Cock-a-doodle-MOO!” weeks 1-7 Hop on the hayride – it’s time to head for the farm! We’ll swoop up and glide down, we’ll stop and we’ll go. We’ll listen for unique animal sounds, instrument sounds, and the sparkle and wonder of our children’s voices as they explore making their own kind of music. Singing and moving to childhood favorites such as “Old MacDonald” and “You Are My Sunshine” as well as new selections, we’ll encourage and enjoy baby’s learning and development.

“DewDrops” weeks 8-14 Stop and smell the roses – and lily of the valley and tulips and pansies. You and your baby will sing and move together to such favorites as “How Does Your Garden Grow” and “White Coral Bells,” play instruments “All the Way to Galway,” and dance the “Irish Trot.” You’ll find new ways to experience pitch (high and low), duration (long and short), and tempo (fast and slow), laying the foundation for a lifetime of musical enjoyment.

“Away We Go!” Hop on the train, drive the car, board the plane, steer the wagon, float the boat – Away We Go! This class focuses on transportation, a favorite topic for toddlers who are on the go, go, go! Sing and play along with favorite songs, such as “I’ve Been Workin’ on the Railroad” and “Wheels on the Bus.” Explore fast and slow, smooth and bumpy, and high and low. Read stories, play percussion instruments, dance in a circle. Lap bounces and quiet snuggles abound as we affirm how our love for our children along with movement and play nurture their learning in a profound way. Hang on for a fun ride while we make music together!

Home Materials for Our Time: Double CD features 50 songs, sounds, and recordings of favorite activities from class, two story books—Shiny Dinah and Giddy Up! to develop early literacy skills, Home Activity Book, and two harmonicas designed for toddlers, all conveniently stored in an Away We Go! choo-choo train box.

“Toys I Make, Trips I Take” Think of it as a trip inside a child’s imagination. We’ll imagine ourselves to be toys in a toyshop, wondering and exploring how they move and the sounds they make. We’ll build boats and float away across the sea, building rhythm and song with each imaginary saw, hammer, and nail. We’ll pack our bags and, with maps in hand, we’ll head to the train station for a journey in music and movement. We’ll enter the world of animals as we travel toward reading and writing. With each adventure we’ll be strengthening our listening, language, and social skills, using our play to make ourselves at home in the larger world.

Home Materials: Two books—If I Had a Big Blue Boat and Tippity Tippity Too, double CD of songs and activities from class, Toyshop Play Set, Family Activity Book, Kindermusik drum, and an Imagine That! backpack.

In the fall semester your child will prepare to learn to play the glockenspiel by developing his steady beat, motor skills, listening and reading skills. We'll begin to read notes and rhythms and solidify a pitch center that will be used for the next four semesters. The children will also begin to learn about the orchestral instruments.

In the spring, we will further develop your child's instrument playing skills while developing the greatest instrument of all ? the voice! Pressure free, developmentally appropriate concepts help effectively prepare children for formal music instruction after age seven.

In the fall, your child will continue her musical studies with an introduction to Appalacian music (through dances, songs, and the use of the 2-string dulcimer), continue to learn more of the notes on the staff, more musical concepts and dance, play games, sing and play to multi-cultural music.

The spring semester explores multicultural music – from Japan to Hawaii to Africa, just to name a few! Your child will learn basic notation concepts on his or her first wind instrument – the recorder – while gaining confidence and appreciation for their own musical gifts.

Kindermusik has brought the unparalleled benefits of music web-content education to private music studios around the world, delighting both children and parents with our creative and developmentally appropriate musical activities for over 35 years. Kindermusik@School, our research-based program designed especially for schools, brings the same benefits of music education to the classroom. Easy-to-implement lessons help teachers meet the needs of every child at each of five developmental levels. Each lesson fosters whole-child development, builds school readiness, and introduces the joy and power of music into virtually any early childhood learning setting.

And Kindermusik@School is effective: results from a recent independent research study showed that preschoolers who participated in a Kindermusik@School curriculum for as little as 30 minutes each week showed a 32% greater gain in early language and literacy skills than the control group.

The Kindermusik@School curricula align with standards for high-quality early childhood education, including: Common Core State Standards, Head Start and Early Head Start Standards and Frameworks, the Infant/Toddler Environment Rating Scale (ITERS), the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ETERS), and the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS®) Pillars.
